Our water based, low VOC wood floor finishes are the cleanest, most convenient and healthiest system for refinishing hardwood floors available. The Bona Environmental Choice System features our innovations in waterborne finishes, the only finish used by All-In Hardwood Floor Refinishing.
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System encourages and accelerates global adoption of sustainable green building and development practices through the creation and implementation of universally understood and accepted tools and performance criteria.
LEED for new construction sets voc limits of 275 grams per liter for sanding sealers and 350 grams per liter for wood finishes. Bonaseal sealer VOC is 100 grams per liter, Bona (DTS) Deep Tone Sealer VOC is 170 grams per liter and the finishes Bona Mega has a VOC of 150 grams per liter. Bona Traffic has a VOC of 180 grams per liter.
All our hardwood floor finishes are well under the strict environmental VOC levels for a healthy environment. All Bona water based finishes are Green Guard indoor air quality Certified.
Not so long ago it was common for fumes to drive people from their homes during hardwood floor refinishing. Most conventional oil based hardwood finishes contain high levels of VOCs (volatile organic compounds) that produce a breathable gas when applied.
The VOCs diminish air quality and may be detrimental to your health. Today, alternative manufacturing techniques have allowed the development of low- and no-VOC water based wood floor finish that release minimal VOC pollutants and are virtually odor free.
Oil Finishes are formulated with solvents (or VOCs) to improve performance and durability. However, increased awareness of possible health risks and overall air quality concerns has led to a demand for products with lower VOCs.
Bona has therefore risen to the challenge by developing high-quality, water-based coatings and oil-modified stains that qualify as low-VOC. Products may be described as low-VOC when they off-gas significantly less than other products.
